November saw the last training day of the year. This chilly Sunday we took a small group of our new members and introduced them to different aspects of off road driving to prepare our Responders for low traction conditions. We have various types of vehicles here including an AWD Volvo on A/T tyres proving the capability of such vehicles. Topics covered included: • Passenger and driver safety • Convoy Drills and comms etiquette • River Crossings • Using Hi vs Lo range and gear selection • Hills, failed Hill climbs and Side Slopes • 4x4 Systems demonstration (T/A, Diff Locks) • Equipment Demo/discussion • Questionnaire on driver traction aids • Scenic & more technical drive with spotting We are always looking for new members throughout the Highlands to help ensure we can attend callouts and support our partners when we are needed.
